Yttriumcarbonat wird häufig in elektronischer Keramik, Glas und Elektronik eingesetzt. Hochreine Qualitäten sind die wichtigsten Materialien für Triband-Seltenerd-Leuchtstoffe und Yttrium-Eisen-Granate, die sehr wirksame Mikrowellenfilter sind. Yttriumcarbonat ist eine wasserunlösliche Yttriumquelle, die durch Erhitzen (Kalzinierung) leicht in andere Yttriumverbindungen wie das Oxid umgewandelt werden kann.
